A Craft of Pleasure

This duo has really been great in my opinion, they've been somewhat new to me as "Tarantula" was huge for me this summer and then now I've just been getting into some of their other stuff - specifically "Carny".
They call themselves "A simultaneously visceral and cerebral experience induced only by the seductive, deep, groove heavy, underground techno inspired music that you hear the kids listening to." See what you think:

(This song is insane, the voice starting at 3:10 leading into the drop at 3:56, really good stuff)

(This is them taking that sound of theirs and putting it into a more carnival type funk mood, with a  mild arabian nights influence, or that's what it sounds like to me, starting with that beat at 1:03 it gets fun and impossible not to at least head nod with, the final element that really ties the song together is the usage of well-effected vocals at 3:22)

Hear the Light

Here's a song that I've been into recently, the beat that it drops into at about 0:45 is fantastic, really danceable and happy.

The Suspense is Over

After a very long time, and after Tay Today fossilized into blog under-management resulting in lack of new posts, I have awakened from hibernation and will be giving this blog the proper send off it deserves.
To begin, here's the mix which I promised to give to whoever had the 10,000th view on Tay Today.
The lucky lad was my son/friend Louis and he was patient enough to let me take my sweet sweet time in making it.
His birthday was September 17th and he turned 17 and the mix is 17 minutes long, with 56 seconds of good luck at the end.
I can post the tracklist if people want me to so if you comment asking for it then it shall be done.

  Seventeen Kna' Mean by TayToday

I'll be doing maybe a couple more mixes and a recap post of Electric Zoo 2011, which was fucking nuts.

Sunday Evening Cartoon

It may not be Saturday, but when you have swag, you choose the day of the week. And I'm gonna go ahead and give you the Saturday Morning Cartoon on a Sunday, because I couldn't finish posting it yesterday morning (or evening) as initially planned. So now this might be the best part of your Sunday routine since it won't solely involve preparing for a brutal monday (sorry I just reminded you).
And look at that! Two posts in less than eight weeks? Has something happened to me? Laziness to do my other work? Possibly. An invigorated determination to make people more aware musically and brighten their audio-lives and visual desires? Perhaps.
No matter the reason, this should do the trick in satisfying whatever thirst you had when coming upon this page.
Shabam - Shinichi Osawa for the masses!

(In my opinion, just a beautiful track with a fittingly beautiful accompanying video. A wide variety and range of sounds and tones in a decidedly cluttered but calculated way make this song a surrounding paradise of noise for you to enjoy your day with. At 2:23 when the bass kicks in I think my heart gets a little stronger due to its intense appreciation of life at that sound. Maybe exaggerating, or maybe it's just that good. Only one way to find out!)

Keystone State of Mind

You guys have full reason to hate me since I haven't been posting at all recently, but mah people, I had midterms, and then I was on spring break in Cuba without internet! So it's not my fault if the swag hasn't been on point.
Also I've been working on a lot of shit on the side, but I'm still gonna start posting more often now, cause I gotchu like that. At least until my dropbox finally runs out of space.
But, here's a song by Tayyib Ali (don't sleep on the kid) that I just heard, and is by far my favorite song of his and I think it's really dope. Peep the vid and then download the video rip below (and then of course the mixtape when it drops)!

(The beat is fantastic, the samples just sound great with the drums providing such a steady rhythm for him to flow upon, and flow he does, along with some great lyrics that really provide a look into what his path has been like so far. I appreciate his realness on this track 'cause most of the stuff he says is actually believable and not just macho head honcho blabber unlike what we usually hear in rap. And for that realness, the steady flow and great instrumental this track is great, end of story.)

Sour Life

Work is getting pretty intense so that's why there's a lack of posts recently, but here's a dope track you guys should enjoy. I've been unsure of the new upshot rapper Vado since everyone started saying 'sliiiime', especially since slime flu just sounds lame. But a couple of his tracks have been good.
So today I'm posting two of the ones I've liked most; one of them which you've probably heard ("Large on the Streets") and one you probably have not ("Sour Life"), so this way you can hear some of what I consider his good shit, and see if you like him or not. Oh and Cam'ron is on one of the tracks so that's just like an eargasm for any of you dipset fiends.

(Miniplayer is here since the snapshot doesn't let you play the song for this link, but downloading is still the same)
(This beat is simply on point, the hook works, and the verses all flow well. In my opinion, this is easily the best Vado track and the best argument for why he's good, but I'm open to persuasion. I swear this shit will get stuck in your head though)

(One of my friends pointed out how similar this track's beat and vocal samples are to "Hard Knock Life", and it's quite an accurate observation. I think that means this track has to be good, cause who doesn't like "Hard Knock Life"... I know Dr. Evil likes it. This is no "Hard Knock Life" but it's still good)

Cali Dreaming

Recently played a set at Sigma Chi's TimeWarp Rush Party, which was 80s and 90s themed (70s in the basement), and during the set I dropped one of my personal favorite tracks to much success.
I was trying to mainly play good dance music but have it be correctly themed, and this song most definitely fit the bill. A great remix of the ever classic "California Dreaming" by one of my favorite DJs Benny Benassi (yeah I'd have to say he's a guilty pleasure (pause) since his stuff can be corny).
From Electric Zoo '10, yeee
(A classic turned into a danceable smash, what else could you ask for? A milkshake. But that's about it.)

MoonThing

I've been working on probably my best mix to date, and although my controller isn't working and thus I can't finish recording it and show it to you all, I did luckily find a sample of it on my external hard-drive that I quickly recorded over Winter Break.
Although it's a little rough, it definitely gives you a good preview of what the mix is like as it has the beginning mashup of "Bright Young Thing" by Albert Hammond Jr. and "Moonboy" by Mujuice.
I posted it on my Soundcloud (where you can also find my "Just Dew It" and "Rumble in the Jungle" mixes).
Here it is, check it out and tell me what you think! I know some people are excited for the full thing and the final version, but I hope you will be too.

Also, now you can download all of my mixes on Soundcloud!

Saturday Morning Cartoon

"Tay! I woke up this morning with anticipations of having a morning cartoon! and I was disappointed!"
Shut up and handle the realness.
Here's a Saturday 'morning' cartoon, since we all can't wake up at 7AM.
Sorry for sounding harsh, it was to get you excited for a more intense music video than usual.

Rundun Taon

It's Friday and you need an epic song to get you hyped for tonight, either at your pre-drink or at wherever you're going.
It's Friday and you're mad at me for having posted a post about colors yesterday... and you just wanna hear shit, not see shit.
Or maybe, you're not even going out tonight, and you want to have a good time dolo. Or you're DJing tonight and need a song to put the crowd in the frenzy.
Or maybe you just appreciate good music and want more of it, and you actually thought the color post was interesting.
Whatever your motives, this song is sure to satisfy them.
As long as you're not against the dub.

London Town (Foamo Remix) - Man Like Me
(I've come to expect good things from Foamo, and this song does not disappoint AT ALL. The vocals are good and whatnot, especially making it a sick and enjoyable build up. I love piano in build ups and my electronic songs, so I quite obviously love the piano in this, as well as the vocals. And it just builds up perfectly into a flowing dubstep drop which I'm definitely a fan of. With samples dropping back in smoothly, I expect you guys to appreciate a lot with this song.)

An Interesting Coincidence

I'll be posting a sick track, and some long awaited posts soon enough. But in the meantime I've become aware of a coincidence that I think is interesting and you guys might find cool!
So each year Pantone comes out with their color of the year, and I saw the color for 2011, and then the color for 2010, and realized something.
They're similar to the Tay Today layout!

Of course they're not identical to the colors here, but the similarity is definitely striking (and has been attested by my friends so I'm not just a crazy man).

Pantone Color 2010:

Pantone Color 2011:

What do you guys think? I think it's pretty cool and definitely an interesting coincidence.

Vulfiepoo

Wolfgang Gartner, the man, the legend, the 21st of January.
No but really,  Vulfie may not be a legend (at least to most people), but this guy is a huge artist, one of the best in the game and with one of the most unique styles, and he's performing here in Montreal at Club Soda on the 21st, with my buddy Strava opening for him.
I saw him at Electric Zoo earlier this year and he killed it, so I'm expecting much of the same, especially since this time he's the headliner, so he's definitely going to be bringing his best.
In anticipation of this event, and to get some of my friends who might be going to either be swayed to go or just to give them an idea of what they'll hear, I'm gonna post a couple Vulf songs for you mofuckas to hear and enjoy.

(I had to start with this song because it's the first Wolf song I heard and it's an instant classic, the build up is killer - starting at around 1:00 you may be prone to a heart attack in anticipation, and the drop at 1:25 and on is as creative I've ever heard and amazing with good speakers)

(This is a great song, the vocals are cute in my opinion, or something, just because this song is an immediate upper, making you happy and excited for more. No big drop here, just a nice, strong rhythm, and feel-good song, with small drops here and there to keep you going. It's like preparation for a banger, kind of like the drizzle before a thunder storm)

(One of his newer songs, it was a tossup between posting this and his collab with Deadmau5 "Animal Rights", but I prefer "Illmerica" so I'm posting it, and also, most of you have probably already heard "Animal Rights", either way, if you haven't then you can hit the link. Lots of great builds and drops here, just a well composed track that makes you feel great.)

And saving the best for last...
(Welcome to the Wolf side of things once you hear this song. It's a vicious killer and that's kind of all there is to say. One of my favorite songs I heard at Electric Zoo.)

Saturday Morning Cartoon

Here's a song that's easier to wake up to, and a music video that's the modern day Saturday cartoon for us children of the new world.
TDFO. Trip De Fuck Out.

Fuck Yes

Excuse my french, but fuck yes! Finally the layout is back working, thanks to help from a very kind blogger! So, in the spirit of this, I've decided I will post a song I love right now.
It might not be as raw and bass and destruction filled as my first song in a while should be, but this song is great.

Ok I changed my mind, I'm going to post a raw, bass, destruction of a tune, that will be sure to make sure you and your mother lock the doors and windows to make sure the wobble doesn't come get you.
Hide your kids? Hide your wife?.... hide your ears?
Too late.
Ze wobble has arrived, and if you're gonna be weak then it will probably be....
(This is one of the best songs I've heard in a WHILE, it's just too fucking good. The beginning is epic with the word association, and then the drop is sudden and furious, my first reaction upon hearing it was literally "WAO" which means wow, but in a smoothly spelled way. It's ridiculously good and I can't believe I didn't know who Far Too Loud was until a couple days ago. Welcome to the dark side my friends, we have bass.)

And in the spirit of Igloofest in Montreal tomorrow, where Stanton Warriors will be performing! Here's the ever classic song that my sister put me on. If you're in Montreal, come through and get your face rocked to joyful music for the masses (or at least the masses with good taste)! and if you're not in Montreal, if you appreciate good music you'll still love this shit (and I assume you like good music if you're even on this blog).

(Just a dope track, 'nuff said.) (I can't believe I actually stopped at a 'nuff said. Did you feel like something was missing? Not enough of a description? Fine. In case you needed more. This song is killer, I love bass, I love the beach boys, my vibrations are good as hell and that's why my dogs and woman love me, positive vibes all day long, but the real vibrations that are important are the bass vibrations abound in this post and massaging your ears into a deep satisfaction that you can't find with shit music.)

Coming Soon

I was also supposed to do a mix for Louis (the winner of the 10,000th visitor 'competition'), and worry not, the mix is planned and prepared, I just have to record it and then it'll be posted here for your listening pleasure.

The Difficulties of Life

As you may have realized, Tay Today's layout is significantly shat upon. You also may have noticed that there have been no posts in a long time. These two occurrences are linked and I'd like to explain them in order to apologize for wasting your precious time if you checked for new Taypproved music and were dismayed at the absence of such.
Basically, I've been on winter break since December 17th, back in the Grand Pomme, and during the break I was supposed to do a couple posts (specifically a Talib Kweli one in anticipation of his concert, which was dope. You guys need to let me know if you still want that post), as well as a complete remodeling of Tay Today; new layout, simpler, easier, etc. But this was all put to shame when Blogger decided that it was going to make life extremely difficult on me.
The layout is fucked 'cause for some reason Blogger randomly changed it and put the entire sidebar underneath the posts, and then now the widths are messed up too, and the centering, and I added reaction buttons, but those didn't appear. In case you really wanted to know how it was messing up.
So in summary,
My bad about the past couple weeks, but you can blame Blogger. And I'ma see what I can do to fix up Tay Today, and do some posts in the meantime.
Stay dope you kids!
